Statement Of Faith:

Summary: We are looking for a youth minister for the 2020-2021 school year to shepherd about 15 teenagers with a small team of adult volunteers. We need someone who can focus the ministry on discipleship, prayer, and scripture. For 10 hours each week, the youth minister will lead weekly Youth Night (currently games, music, Bible study, and small groups), ensure that each student is cared for and prayed for by a TBC member, and support the volunteer Youth Sunday School teachers. Provisionally, if the candidate is interested and demonstrates pastoral leadership of the youth, this position may be expanded to a pastoral resident position; adding up to an additional 10 hours per week to help with and learn about other aspects of pastoral ministry.

• The minister/resident will report to the pastor, Alex Kato. Alex started as the pastor of TBC in spring 2020. Before coming to TBC, he served as a high school pastor in Bellevue, WA, earned his M.Div. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and earned his homiletics Ph.D. at Princeton Theological Seminary. He was ordained for pastoral ministry at Stone Hill Church in Princeton, NJ.

• Lead weekly youth nights (currently games, music, Bible study, and small groups).
• Lead a small team of adult volunteers.
• Ensure that each student is cared and prayed for by a TBC member.
• Support youth Sunday School (taught by a volunteer).
• (optional) Support various ministries throughout TBC aimed at growth for future pastoral ministry.

o The minister/resident must be able to establish and maintain appropriate pastoral relationships with teenagers.
o Though we are all in the process of growing, the minister/resident should be growing in Christian character that students can imitate.
o The minister/resident should be fostering Christian character growth by regular practices of prayer and Bible engagement.
o The minister/resident must be able to foster fruitful Christian relationships with and among students and volunteers.
o The minister/resident should be able to encourage students in faith, hope, and love.
o The minister/resident should be able to teach the Bible in formal and informal settings.
o Higher education in biblical interpretation, pastoral ministry, and youth ministry is preferred.
o Some graduate education for pastoral ministry is preferred (e.g., completed seminary credits).

o Candidates must review the TBC “What We Believe” statement (, discuss areas of disagreement when asked in the questionnaire, and commit to teach doctrine that aligns with TBC’s while serving as the minister/resident.
o Candidates exploring or pursuing pastoral ministry are preferred
o As part of the Northwest Baptist Convention, TBC holds to The 2000 Baptist Faith and Message and this position is in part, training for future pastoral ministry. As such, this position is intended for a male minister/resident.

• 10-20 hours per week (10 hours per week of youth ministry, plus up to 10 hours of additional mentored ministry around the congregation)
• Compensation based on experience
