Senior Pastor - Description of Responsibilities
Ministry Title - Senior Pastor - Mandeville Bible Church
Principal Function:
The Senior Pastor of Mandeville Bible Church (MBC), as a staff Elder, is responsible for:
Proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to the church body
Serving the church through administrative leadership
Engaging in pastoral care ministries to meet the needs of the church and community
Acting as the chief administrator of the paid church staff
He is a fellow-servant with the Board of Elders and is under the authority of the corporate Elder Board.
Responsibilities:
• To set as a guideline of personal behavior the standard required in I Timothy 3: 1-7 and I Peter 5:1-4.
• To maintain office hours for four (4) days a week.
• Maintain a regular program of study to enable him to plan and conduct meaningful worship services.
• Prepare for and conduct the regularly scheduled church worship service on Sunday morning and other services as deemed necessary by the Elders. Lead in the observance of the ordinance of baptism and participate in the communion rotation with the other Elders as necessary.
• Model a lifestyle of personal evangelism. The Senior Pastor should present the plan of salvation as part of the message from the pulpit every week and motivate the church body to be involved in personal evangelism.
• Shepherd the church body in the areas of visiting the sick, the shut-ins, the grieving, and encouraging and correcting the body. This includes guarding, guiding, feeding, and disciplining to foster spiritual growth of the church body.
• Supervise other members of the church staff and administer the daily affairs of the church as a representative Elder.
• Encourage and support the ongoing small group ministry of MBC
• Conduct pre-marital, vocational, family, bereavement, etc. counseling sessions as needed. The Pastor should refer such cases to other professional help when necessary.
• Be available to conduct funeral services and to perform wedding ceremonies based on his convictions.
• Maintain effective communication with area churches of similar beliefs and doctrine.
• Be a representative of the church body to the public and community.
As an example – model an alcoholic free lifestyle to the congregation.
• Be supportive and encouraging of existing and future missionary support programs and/or individuals.
• Be supportive and encourage youth ministries within the congregation.
• Be supportive and encourage the music ministry of the church.
Qualifications And Compensation
Senior Pastor Qualifications
• An effective speaker:
A passion for teaching God’s Word which is seen in the delivery of his sermon.
Preaches and teaches the truth of God’s Word along with practical application for today’s living.
Dispensational in his interpretation and teaching of Scripture.
Holds to a Free Grace understanding of the Gospel, which becomes evident in the content of his preaching and teaching.
• Enthusiastic leader
• Self-motivated
• Ordained Minister, with previous ministry experience preferred (3 to 5 years of pastoral experience as a senior pastor or staff pastor).
• Related Bible college degree, with additional Seminary training preferred.
• Subscribes to each position listed in the Mandeville Bible Church’s Doctrinal Statement.
• Understands and accepts the concept of an Elder-Led church.
• Has a shepherd’s heart and love for all people, and a desire to see them grow in their relationship with Christ.
Senior Pastor Compensation
Total annual benefits package is based on qualifications and previous experience.
