Responsibilities of the Senior Pastor
1. The pastor will serve the church by providing a balanced ministry of preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and organizational leadership to the congregation for the glory of God.
2. The pastor will work in partnership with the deacons, church staff, and ministry leaders to fulfill the vision and mission of the church and promote discipleship among the congregation.
3. He oversees all worship services, prayer meetings, and study groups.
4. He is an ex-officio member of all boards and committees.
5. He shall carry out all other duties pertinent to his position.
Personal Qualifications
1. Born-again believer.
2. Have a passion and an excitement for the Lord.
3. Prayer must be an essential focus for this individual. (Ephesians 6:18)
4. Dependence on the Holy Spirit to guide and direct the ministry of the church.
5. Daily life should reflect the joy of the Lord.
6. Possess a servant’s heart (Mark 10:42-45) and forgiving spirit.
7. An approachable person of integrity, authenticity, and transparency, marked by humility
8. Visionary leader.
9. A good steward, patient (2 Timothy 4:1-2), tactful, prudent, teachable, not tempted by financial gain (1 Timothy 6:9-11), exhibiting self-control (1 Peter 5:8-9).
10. Possess a love for people and have a heart to disciple each one who attends FBC. (Matthew 9:36; John 15:13)
11. Walk with the Lord must be genuine.
12. Must lead by example, serving in humility (1 Timothy 6:11), not seeking self-recognition, but primarily concerned with protecting the flock of God.
13. A gentle spirit (1 Timothy 6:9-11; 2 Timothy 2:24-26) and a willingness to work together with other leaders in the local body.
Ministry Qualifications
The prospective candidate for senior pastor shall have the following requirements 1, 2, and 3 completed and verified by the Deacon Board before being examined by the Deacon Board. This is in accordance with the FBC Constitution.
The Prospective candidate must:
1. Have a diploma or degree (e.g., bachelor’s degree in Christian ministry, Bible, Youth Ministry, Religion, Christian Education, Ministry, Missions) from a seminary, college, Bible institute, or institution of like faith.
2. Be ordained or licensed to minister the Gospel by a council of like faith.
3. Submit a written agreement to the Doctrinal Statement and Constitution of Fellowship Bible Church.
4. Have at least five (5) years (preferably ten (10) years) experience in the pastorate or various church ministry roles.
5. Have a history of involvement in church life.
6. Have a heart for missionaries and their work worldwide.
7. Be competent in counseling and interpersonal relationships.
8. Be a promoter of unity within the flock.
9. Possess the ability to help the body of believers in the church grow both deeper and wider in the knowledge of the Lord, devoting himself to the welfare of the church. (Colossians 3:23-24).
10. Shepherd the body of believers to share Jesus and reach the many lost and unsaved in the community.
11. Be biblically literate and able to preach/teach (with passion, accuracy, and compassion) thoughtful and prayerful messages that are anointed by God.
12. Be committed to the growth of the church body and a desire to maintain a long-term ministry at Fellowship Bible Church.
13. Be able to give and receive feedback constructively and resolve conflict effectively.
