Gospel Community Church:

GCC is an Acts 29 church that was planted in Eugene, Oregon in 2015. Over the last 8 years we have met in five different locations, and are currently looking for our sixth as our kids ministry has outgrown our current space. On a Sunday morning you will see (and hear) lots of kids and babies, as our membership is made up primarily of young families, though we do have growing groups of young singles and older couples as well.

Our church’s mission is to make Jesus the hero, and we strive to do this by preaching the gospel week in and week out. We believe the gospel is not just for the nonbeliever, but that growing belief in the person and work of Jesus is what everyone needs, even the most seasoned saint.

The primary diet of our church is expositional preaching, as we work through books of the Bible with short topical series sprinkled in throughout the year. We have Gospel Community Groups that gather throughout the week in homes to break bread and share life with one another. Our kids ministry is bursting at the seams as more and more families welcome new babies into the world. GCC has been described as “simple,” “authentic,” and “transparent,” things we strive for because, though we take the gospel seriously, we don’t take ourselves very seriously.

Our vision is to see Oregon saturated with gospel-centered churches that are making Jesus the hero, so everything we do as a church moves us to that end. Our desire is to see everything we do as discipleship, training up the next generation of church planters, leaders, and members who will go spread the name of Jesus to the glory of God through the ministry of local churches.

Our staff team currently consists of our Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, and a part time Kid’s Ministry Director. We are an elder-led congregationalist church, where members vote on bigger matters and elders are entrusted with the day to day ministry decisions. Our elder team is made up of both paid and lay elders who are all expected to shepherd and care for the flock that God has entrusted to them through the ministry of the word and prayer.

Lane County (which consists of Eugene, Springfield, and other small outlying towns) is an eclectic place that varies in lifestyles and values depending on what neighborhood you are in. In the heart of Eugene is the University of Oregon campus which has a major cultural influence on the city and its people. As you work out in geography, you see culture and values change pretty drastically. Our church has always been centrally located in the Eugene-Springfield area, but draws people from all over. On a Sunday morning you will find white collar academics and college students sitting next to blue collar contractors and bow hunters. The gospel breaks down cultural boundaries, and we have been blessed to see this happen within our church family.

As our church grows in depth and breadth, we are excited to see what God does with more time and intention put towards our worship and creative arts ministries. We believe this role will help us better disciple the members of our church, and help move us closer to our vision of planting gospel-centered churches where Jesus is the hero.
