Children’s Ministry Pastor
Peninsula Bible Church
Peninsula Bible Church (PBC) is a non-denominational church with 75 years of history located in the heart of Silicon Valley. We are a multi-generational, diverse community of people with a deep love for the Bible and a desire to help people find and follow Jesus. PBC is currently accepting applications for a Children’s Ministry Pastor. This is a full-time, exempt position.
Children’s Ministry Description
The Children’s Ministry at PBC should spiritually care for our children from birth through elementary school, assist families in being spiritually healthy places for children to develop faith in Christ, and reach out to children and families in our local community.
Position Overview
PBC places a high value on the role of the pastor to teach children about God and the gospel, to model the heart of God by loving, caring, and praying for the families and to encourage them to follow Jesus. We also believe the pastor is a trainer and equipper of others, so that those serving in Children’s Ministry feel prepared and motivated to intentionally invest in the lives of children. At PBC this is “the ministry of the saints”. We see this practically in the ability to teach the Scriptures to children and adults at age appropriate levels. Hands-on modeling of ministry is also essential in this effort.
We believe that families are the best place for children to develop healthy relationships with God. The role of the Children’s Ministry at PBC is to supplement and encourage what is happening in families.
Responsibilities
Develop a shared Children’s Ministry vision in collaboration with others, key goals and strategies that are consistent with PBC’s vision and culture.
Discern the needs and challenges of children and families and adjust the ministry accordingly.
Create environments that excite kids to learn about God and foster friendships, such as Sunday school classes, AWANA midweek programs, and seasonal events such as Vacation Bible School (VBS).
Build meaningful personal relationships and community with kids and other adults.
Identify, encourage, and develop spiritual gifts of those serving in Children’s Ministry including training workshops
Integrate Children’s Ministry into the wider church, including with family dedications and youth lead Sundays.
Integrate Children’s Ministry into family life and partner with parents in the spiritual formation of their child’s life. Activities include communications encouraging discussion of Sunday School lessons, active parental participation in major aspects of Children’s Ministry and regular cadence of communications including family newsletters
Provide opportunities for families and children from the broader community to connect with God.
Administrative responsibilities include oversight of paid staff, children ministry budget, coordination of events, recruit and background check volunteers, participate in renovation projects, develop and enforce safety procedures and best practices.
Desired qualifications and experience
A growing and vibrant relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
Undergraduate degree
3-5 years experience leading Children’s’ Ministry in a large church setting.
Demonstrated desire and ability to relate to and connect with children and parents
Experience building and leading a team
Self starter, administrative ability and attention to detail
Additional Pastoral Responsibilities:
PBC has a core commitment to servant leadership, to healthy communication with other staff members, and to shared responsibilities. Any new pastor would have to function well as “one among others” in style of leadership. This includes:
Provide pastoral counseling and care to the congregation
Participate actively as a member of the pastoral team, working together with them to contribute to the life of the church
Communicate with fellow pastoral staff and elders on issues relating to, and of particular interest to, the children and families of PBC
Pastor the congregation at large, paying attention to overall spiritual health. Help lead occasional all-church events and efforts.
