Job Description
Position Summary:
The Associate Pastor will be responsible for developing a ministry to reach, disciple, and equip young parents to become spiritual leaders in the home, the church, and the community and to develop and oversee the children and youth ministries of the church.
Salary:
Full-time (40 hours a week, appx $28 an hour) $60,000
Requirements:
• A growing/mature Christian deeply rooted in the gospel of Christ.
• Has a passion for reaching people with the gospel.
• Has a passion for rural ministry.
• Able to work with people of various ages.
• Be available on weekends and evenings as needed (including availability to attend River Christian church Sunday Services.
• Minimum educational requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in Bible and/or theology. Preferably pursuing or completing a Seminary degree.
• Is able to work as a team with others.
• If married, he has a supportive wife who is likewise passionate about ministry. While we recognize that she is not a staff member and that her primary responsibility is to care for her children, husband, and home, she will be expected to be involved in the ministry of the church as much as any other involved member of the congregation, exercising her spiritual gift for the growth and encouragement of others.
Responsibilities
To develop and lead the ministries to young families by developing ministries to reach and disciple young families in the community and to develop and lead youth ministries for grade school and high school-aged children.
Requirements
o Young Families Ministry leader.
Foster the health and discipleship of young families.
Develop home bible studies with young families.
Develop and run Children’s ministries as determined by the senior pastor.
o To preach sermons and lead Sunday School classes as determined by the Senior pastor.
o To meet weekly with the pastor for spiritual, theological, and practical coaching. This will involve discussion on assigned reading, evaluation of assigned projects, and mentoring in personal, marital, and spiritual growth.
o If married: For the wife to meet once a month with the pastor’s wife for spiritual, theological, and practical coaching.
o To attend all regularly scheduled Elder Board Meetings as well as ministry team meetings as required by the Senior pastor.
o To attend fellowship functions of the church as deemed necessary by the Senior Pastor.
Preferred (but not required):
o The individual or spouse is able to assist in the leading of worship and music.
Mentoring
The Associate will be mentored weekly by Dr. Glenn Daman, a leader and author of rural ministry. Part of the mentoring process will include being involved in all areas of ministry to gain ministry experience in preaching and teaching as well as involvement in program development and operation to provide practical experience in pastoral ministry.
The Associate will be assigned books written by Dr. Daman in order to be mentored in rural ministry and to promote spiritual and ministry growth.
The Associate’s wife also be mentored by the Dr. Daman's wife in order to help equip her for hte challenges and opportunities in ministry as the wife of a rural pastor.
