Job Description
Objective: To hire a Director of Student Ministries who has an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, knowledge and experience in reaching youth and their families with the gospel, possesses clear credentials, and is a strong servant-leader with the ability to work as part of an overarching ministry team.
Spiritual Formation & Discipleship
Lead weekly youth group meetings with biblical teaching, prayer, and fellowship.
Organize and teach Sunday School for youth, recruiting and equipping additional teachers.
Encourage spiritual practices like prayer, service, and Bible study.
Equip parents to lead and nurture their own children in the faith.
Organize and implement periodic Confirmation Classes.
Relationship Building
Build positive, Christ-centered relationships with youth and families.
Provide pastoral care to youth in coordination with pastoral staff.
Engage with youth at school, sporting, or community events (as appropriate).
Build relationships and trust with the families of youth, particularly their parents and/or grandparents.
✦ Program Development
Plan and execute events, retreats, mission trips, and service opportunities.
Collaborate on intergenerational programs with other ministry areas, particularly with parents of the students, overlapping in this responsibility with other staff members.
Create a calendar of regular youth activities.
✦ Administration & Leadership
Communicate regularly with parents and volunteers.
Recruit, train, and support youth ministry volunteers.
Manage the youth ministry budget and submit reports to Session as needed.
✦ Collaboration & Accountability
Attend staff meetings and report to the Pastor and/or Session.
Collaborate with the Discipleship Team and its Sub-teams. Work well with other teams or committees and staff persons.
Support the overall mission of the church and participate in worship as appropriate.
Lead and grow weekly youth group (middle & high school).
Organize and lead Bible studies, service projects, outreach events, and fellowship activities.
Oversee Sunday School curriculum and volunteers.
Partner with families to support the spiritual development of their kids.
Participate in the broader life of the church and collaborate with pastoral staff.
Serve in alignment with Reformed theology and the Presbyterian tradition (Scripture and the Westminster Confession, primarily)
