Temple Baptist Church Music Director Job Description
Job Title: Music Director
Reports To: Pastor
Position Status: Part-Time
Purpose & Vision:
The role of the Music Director is to support the vision communicated by the Pastors/Elders by leading, planning, and helping the congregation of Temple Baptist Church (TBC) grow in their understanding of worship through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Eph. 5:18-21; Col. 3:16).
Qualifications:
● Be a member of TBC in good standing and in agreement with the church’s teaching positions. Exceptions can be made for outside hires who are committed to joining the church.
● As an active and committed member of the church, be committed to consistent and regular attendance at weekly Sunday morning worship, members’ meetings, and annual holiday services (Good Friday, Christmas Eve), or church gatherings.
● Meets the qualifications of a deacon, presented in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
● Able to disciple members of the church by consistently encouraging new volunteers to serve.
● Exhibits a teachable-spirit by being able to offer and receive constructive criticism when necessary.
● Proficient at playing and leading songs through instruments.
● Works well with the volunteering members of the church.
General Responsibilities:
● Work with the Pastors/Elders of TBC to equip the members of the church for the work of ministry.
● Disciple the members of TBC by selecting biblical and gospel-centered songs.
● Oversee the selection of songs that:
○ Are grounded in Scripture.
○ Communicates an aspect of the biblical gospel or the Christian life tied to either the sermon text, theme, or points.
○ Encourages congregational singing.
○ Accepting input from the Pastor when applicable.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
The following specific duties & responsibilities are subject to change in accordance with the needs of the church, as determined by the Pastor. The Music Director is delegated by the Pastor to:
● Lead various parts of the Sunday Worship Gathering. This may include the welcome and announcements, Scripture readings, and congregational singing.
● To provide administrative oversight for all aspects of music in relation to the Sunday Worship Gathering.
○ Participating in Staff Meetings.
○ Communicating with TBC’s Administrative Assistant as needed.
● Identify and coordinate volunteers within the congregation to serve in the music ministry. Scheduling members in a way and frequency that promotes their ability to worship God.
● Organize and lead (administratively and spiritually) rehearsals during the week and Sunday mornings before the Worship Gathering.
● Provide oversight and coordination for all music equipment. Provide technical support and feedback to sound and media as needed.
● Meet with the Pastor weekly for ongoing discipleship.
Office & Working Hours:
● General Hours (10 hours)
Compensation:
● $21.00/hour
● Staff Benefits, Vacation, Sick Leave, and Bereavement Leave as stipulated in TBC’s Employee Policy Handbook.
