| Statement Of Faith: | We believe in the Scriptures as verbally inspired and completely inerrant in the original writings and of supreme and final authority in faith and life. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. We believe that man was created in the image of God, so that all human life is sacred. We believe that God created all people immutably male or female, and instituted marriage as between one man and one woman only. We believe that all have sinned and so have incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God, and that all are born with a sinful nature and are sinners in thought, word and deed. We believe that Christ died for our sins as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. We believe that all who receive Christ by faith are born of the Spirit and so become children of God, eternally secure. We believe in the resurrection of our crucified Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and his present life for us as high priest and advocate. We believe that the universal church is a spiritual organism made up of all believers in Christ and that every believer is baptized by the Spirit; and that the local church is an autonomous assembly of believers, the ordinances of which are baptism by immersion and the Lord’s supper. We believe that the Spirit gives gifts to believers for the edification of the body, and that sign gifts are not normally operative in the church today. We believe in the personal return of Christ in power and glory to judge the living and the dead, complete our redemption, and make all things new. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; in the everlasting blessedness of the saved, who shall see God; and in the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. |
Come be part of revitalizing a historic church as a way to give back to the kingdom while preparing your heart for a life of shepherding.
Internship Focus:
- Forming a life of theological contemplation which is biblical, christocentric, historic, and reformed, as the heart of ministry.
- Practical applications of this heart in preaching, teaching, discipling, and other shepherding skills.
- Learning to love the local church and desire its health in view of Jesus' own heart (Rev. 2-3), especially applied to small-church revitalization.
- Learning to understand the church as organic and spiritual, and to recognize and reject 'mechanical' visions of church life.
Internship Features:
- Theological mentorship, including reading, writing, and discussion.
- Practical training, including teaching, shepherding, and discipleship responsibilities.
- Moral formation in personal spirituality, church life, and family life. -
- Flexibility to accommodate previous experience, growth needs, or a seminary student's course load.
Candidate Requirements:
- Generally qualified to shepherd according to 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:7-9.
- Able to dedicate an average of 8 hours per week.
- Must become a member of Scholls Community Church and remain so for the duration of the internship at least.
- Although the candidate need not be theologically reformed, he must be willing to learn from the reformed vision of theology, shepherding, and church life.
Note: the nature of a small-church revitalization internship is that we are not able to offer substantial benefits. However, what we do offer is the opportunity to come and work to help build the future of gospel witness in the Portland area, while learning the art of shepherding.
All interested candidates should contact Ezra Dunn (ezra@schollschurch.com) for information on the application process.
