Spring Mountain Christian Academy is an independent, nondenominational school in Happy Valley (renting space inside Eastridge Church). We have approximately 75 students in our campus for grades 6-12. About 2/3 of our students come from Slavic backgrounds, giving our student body a unique flavor.
We are hiring for a part-time (Bible only) or full-time teacher (Bible and other classes). Our hope is that students will gain so much more than academic knowledge of the scriptures. We want them to develop a robust understanding of what it means to follow Jesus with their whole lives, to practice various tools for engaging with Jesus, and, most importantly, we want them to find Jesus deeply compelling and worthy of their devotion.
The Bible only schedule would be three 55-minute classes (one section of 7th grade Bible, one section of 8th grade, and one section of 9th and 10th combined, each with 16-18 students), Monday-Wednesday, with additional paid prep time for a total of about 14 hours per week. The pay is approximately $25 per hour, depending on experience and education.
Our full-time teachers teach five classes per day with two prep periods and other responsibilities such as lunch supervision and staff devotionals. The school day goes from 8:20am-3:45pm. A Bible teacher working full time could be assigned to teach the three sections described above and other core subjects (history, English, math or science) or elective classes to amount to 20 class hours per week. Thursdays have a significantly lighter load because students have chapel instead of Bible class. Teacher assignments are custom-created each year based on the abilities and interests of our teacher team. Full time teacher salaries are approximately $40,000 per year, spread evenly across months regardless of Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring, and summer breaks.
Our teachers will begin meeting for back-to-school trainings and team-building on August 17, with the first day of class being August 31. The last day of school will be June 3.
