Position Overview
The Director of Children’s Ministry supports Canby Alliance Church to live out its mission of forming disciples of Jesus by shaping a warm, relational, and spiritually formative environment for children and families. This role provides vision, leadership, and shepherding presence across nursery through 5th grade, cultivating spaces where children feel known and loved, families feel supported, and volunteers feel encouraged and equipped.
Far more than coordinating programs, this position is a leader and equipper of a team with a relational capacity for breadth and depth—walking alongside children and parents as they learn to follow Jesus in the everyday moments of life.
Key Responsibilities
Children’s Ministry Leadership & Ministry Development (20%)
-Develop an intentional, overall strategy for children’s ministry. (Nursery - 5th Grade) Provide vision and direction for all children’s environments with a strong relational focus.
-Encourage ministry rhythms, curriculum, and experiences that foster connection, conversation, and spiritual growth.
-Develop and support a fully staffed, safe, and nurturing nursery environment that serves our youngest children and their families.
-Create a hospitable, engaging environment for kids and families.
Family Care & Discipleship Support (20%)
-Work with staff and ministry leaders to integrate children’s check in into the overall assimilation strategy of the church.
-Create opportunities for family gatherings to connect, support, and encourage one another as parents and volunteers.
-Partner with Lead Pastor on dedications, baptisms, and milestone moments.
Weekly Ministry Operations (40%)
-Prepare curriculum and activities that invite interaction, conversation, and hands-on engagement.
-Ensure classrooms and spaces communicate safety, welcome, and relational warmth.
-Oversee check-in and Sunday logistics with attentiveness and care.
-Be a consistent relational presence for kids, parents, and volunteers during worship services.
Communication & Administration (10%)
-Maintain clear and consistent communication with families and volunteers.
-Keep safety protocols, background checks, and rosters current and thorough.
-Steward the children’s ministry budget thoughtfully and responsibly.
-Coordinate seasonal events, trainings, and outreach with a focus on connection and community-building.
Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
This individual may be called upon to help with projects beyond the normal scope of the Children's Ministry. These tasks will be evaluated based on gifting, talent and the needs of the church.

-Warm, approachable, and attentive to the needs and stories of families.
-A team-builder who empowers and encourages others.
-Creative and adaptable, comfortable shaping relational experiences for a wide range of ages.
-Possess strong follow-through and communication skills.
-Emotionally grounded and collaborative, contributing positively to the church staff culture.
Qualifications
-Growing relationship with Jesus and alignment with the mission, values, beliefs and leadership of Canby Alliance Church.
-At least two year’s experience working with children or families in a volunteer or paid capacity with a proven track record of equipping parents and leaders
-Demonstrated ability to build strong relational connections and lead volunteers.
-Strong communication skills.
-Commitment to safe ministry practices and child protection policies.
- Preferred: theological or ministry training and familiarity with family discipleship frameworks.
Hours & Reporting
This position is a non-exempt, ministry role that is paid hourly and is currently allotted for 22 hours/week, including Sundays. Compensation is paid hourly.
This individual reports to the Lead Pastor for the collaborative establishment of ministry goals and measures of success. This role will be reviewed annually to refine and celebrate ministry goals.
