POSITION TITLE: Associate Pastor

ROLE SUMMARY - Meet the Elder qualifications (1 Tim. 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-8). To lead and shepherd GBC for the glory of God and the good of the church, and as a result, the world. The Associate Pastor will be a vocational Elder as a pastoral “generalist” for the mission and health of GBC. With emphasis on Discipleship and Leadership Development as a Word-driven and gospel-centered local church. Demonstrated competency in equipping and managing people and teams for the purpose of: glorifying God, by being disciples who make disciples of all people through the transforming power of the gospel.


Primary Responsibilities
Discipleship Process
Alongside the Lead Pastor: create vision, cultivate culture of discipleship, implement and execute ministry philosophy and processes for how we are discipling people at GBC (consistent with GBC’s mission and distinctives)
Leadership Development
Equip leaders and future leaders, be a disciple who makes disciples (2 Tim. 2:2)
Develop pathways for intentional leadership development
Lead internship program
3. Lead Ministry Leaders
Community Groups
Oversee the ministry. Identify and coach leaders.
Men’s Ministry
Oversee the ministry. Create and equip a leadership team.
Oversee and provide on-going feedback:
Weekly service teams
Local Outreach
Prayer Meetings
4. Global Missions

Cultivate and help execute a healthy global missions strategy
Shepherd GBC missionaries
Other Responsibilities
Teach
Preach on Sundays 2-3 times/year
Discipleship
Help in writing, podcasting and teaching the church body
Evangelism
Assist the Lead Pastor and Elders in equipping people to have a heart for the lost and reaching them evangelistically
Other responsibilities for GBC’s health, as discerned by the Elders

Specific Weekly Expectations:
40-50 hours invested in work-related activities
Attend at least 2 staff meetings
Take at least one full day of Sabbath

Person reports to - The Associate Pastor shares authority and responsibility with the other Elders. Day-to-day responsibilities, the Associate Pastor would have a reporting relationship with the Lead Pastor.

Therefore, as a pastor, you commit to growing in grace and seeking to be the kind of person reflected in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. In no way is this a call to perfection. But, you are embracing the reality that you are called to be an example.
